Fault with new carpet advice please

Hi all,
We had a new carpet fitted on the stairs, hall and lounge about six weeks ago.
There appears to be an area about a foot wide and 3-4 foot long in the lounge where It appears the pile goes in a different direction to the rest of the carpet.
It isn't the path way from the doorway into the room so we know we have not flattened it through wear and it goes from one wall halfway across the room.
As you walk into the room the area appears darker than the rest of the carpet but viewed from the opposite side it appears lighter and the carpet is darker which makes me think it's the pile not the plain colour of the carpet.
Is this a fault as we have asked the company who we purchased it from to come out to inspect it.
The company is a well established independant known in the area as I steered clear of the Carpetright's after reading threads on here.
Any advice please.

.
It sounds like they have laid part of your carpet with the pile in a different direction to the rest of it.0 -
This sounds to me like pile reversal and it is more common on plain carpets than on patterned carpets as you do not notice it with a pattern !!.
To explain what it looks like I would say the look of pile reversal is like a water mark on your carpet
If it is you need to contact your carpet supplier immediately as it states on many carpets that pile reversal is not a manufacturing fault and will not be covered under there warranty .
A few carpets manufactures do guarantee against pile reversal Brintons Bell twist as an example and some Westex carpets .0 -
This happened to me a few years ago, we had an 17ft x 15 L shaped lounge and a big stripe of pile reversal hit us straight in the face when we walked in the door. I wasnt in when the fitter finished and just noticed when i came back from shopping. How the fitter didnt notice or did notice and just thought i was stupid enough not to notice i really dont know, but i complained and within a week the whole carpet was replaced with no hassle - by guess who,Carpetright so I will never bad mouth them. (The fitter was an independent contracted to Carpetright)
So my advice would be 'yes' youve done the right thing in getting it inspected
Good luck
I complained andmake the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
A representative from the retailer came out today and advised my wife yes indeed it was pile reversal. He said they will contact the manufacturer of the carpet who will probably not send anyone out to inspect it but should come back with an offer of partial refund or replacement.
The mark will still be there for years to come so I think we will push for the replacement.
Thanks all ... :T:T:T0 -
Just to point out that if it has happened on this carpet it could probably happen again on the new replacement carpet .
Talk to your retailer and ask what he suggests and see if he suggests a carpet which is manufactured in different way to make pile reversal less likely0 -
I had new carpet installed last Tuesday. I complained about the Pile Reversal that afternoon to CarpetRight and someone came out Saturday. He said it was Pile Reversal and he would need to contact the manufacturer and that could take about 2 weeks. He said they may a)do nothing b) offer partial refund c) Replace carpet. After reading many complaints, I'm not holding out much hope. Surely if a customer isn't happy, then you should try and rectify that as a retailer??? Any advice appreciated. What about the sale of goods act? Can I use that?
Thanks for reading.0 -
Any response to this? Did you get refund or replacement? I'm not holding out much hope for mine......0
