Moving whilst in receipt of JSA

Hi, can anyone advise what is involved in moving to a different town while on Jobseekers Allowance? are they able to just transfer your claim to the new town or do you have to reclaim?

Thanks

i belive you have to fill in a form for a change of address the benfit should continue as normal and they will transfer your details to the relevant jobcenter where your moving to.
  • I did the same thing back in Sept, all you have to do is advise your job centre and then as soon as you've moved go into your new local job centre and they will sort out all the details for you. It is just a form and possibly different signing on day, but don't worry it's not a new claim.

Don't know if this is a bit late, but when we moved we had to make sure we got to the new office within 5 days of when we were die to sign and you don't get excused any meetings or similar in your old office because of moving - if there booked you have to go to them.

I got sanctioned for a week by my old office 3 weeks after moving (2 weeks after signing at new office) as they'd sent a letter to my old address making me an appointment with my old advisor even though I'd signed and had my claim moved to a new address and the sanction letter came to my new address. Go figure. Failed on appeal as I should attend all booked advisor meetings!

Apparently to avoid this I should have phoned my old office, not just my new office and the main claim line (BDC?), to make sure they knew I shouldn't be signing there anymore.

It's amazing how those with a can-do attitude and willingness to 'pitch in and work' get all the luck, isn't it?
