I just put the start and end locations and 'coach' into Google and found the company (with online booking, print your own ticket) within seconds.
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

Say not to 0870 gives an Hungarian alternative number for Wizzair(english speaking agents)+40364408161

You should be able to call this via www.callsdiscount.com geographical access number for price of a Uk Geographical call, or it maybe even inclusive depending on your provider,s call bundle.

I did try their overseas number on the back of the credit card (as I always do this when calling Barclaycard) but I just got a message which said along the lines of ......"this number is for overseas callers only - please redial 0854..... etc)!!! Santander have obviously caught on to this loophole. I hate these bloomin' numbers - with a passion!!! Am so sick of being ripped off, every which way I turn - aaaaghh!

I've had this problem before with Santander - they are the only company I've ever come across that actually attempt to see if you're calling from abroad. In the end I called them from a VoIP number I have in a different country so it looked like I was calling from abroad even though I was at home in London. Did you try calling them with caller ID disabled (usually done by dialling 141 before the number) - they probably only reject calls with a UK caller ID.

Thanks savercol and simongregson, we did take the laptop back and they have given us a new one, so that problem is now resolved. Can't remember how, but I did finally get through to someone at Santander on one of their 0800 numbers (after a lot of dialling), and was told I couldn't balance transfer my Barclaycard balance onto my existing Abbey Zero card, but would need to apply for one of the Santander cards (won't be bothering to do that). Oh well, at least I didn't pay for that phone call.

benjus; that sounds like a good tip. I will try dialling 141 first in the future for such calls.
  • I get charged for some 0845/0870 calls and not others. I thought these numbers were now free with BT?

I do use a V4 dialler, maybe it's not routing to the best provider.

If you have a BT line and the Unlimited Weekend or the Unlimited Evening & Weekend Calls Plan, calling an 0845 number on a weekday is over 3p per minute cheaper than calling a geographical number (2p/minute as opposed to 5¼p/minute).

You'd have to pay the same 9¼p call set-up fee for both.

OK, there's no comparison with the flat rate 5p to call a geographical number if you use 18185.

BUT, we have to be careful to separate 0845 and 0844 calling here. AFAIAA, no calls provider includes or discounts calls to 0844 numbers whereas a number now include 0845 calls in call plans.

I read somewhere on a blog that BT has offered last October 2009 a free call to their 0845 numbers? Is it still going on or this is just a hoax?

I'm not sure what you mean by 'their' in that question but, generally speaking, yes, to most 0845 and 0870 numbers - 'in plan' only though.
