Failed MOT - separate garage did not do the repairs I requested and paid for

Guys,
I took my 12 year old SAAB to be MOT'ed at a local Council Test Centre (no repairs).

It failed on a number of small points (nearside anti-roll bar rubber, petrol cap seal, one of the brake pads, and the number plate bulb).

I took the car to my local garage (at the bottom of my street) for the repairs, which took a few hours. He charged me £100 cash, which I stupidly paid (no receipt).

Anyway, I took it back to the Council Test Centre this morning, and they have just rung to say it has failed again, as one of the issues (the anti-roll bar rubber) has not been touched at all. And although they have done something with the brakes, which has improved them enough to pass the test, they don't appear to have done was set out on the fail sheet.

Clearly I am fuming, because I have now used up my "half-price re-test", and given that I did not get a receipt for the work I had done (my stupid fault), I suspect that the repair garage may give me the run-around.

Does anyone have any tips on how best to go about approaching the garage - despite the temptation to go in and have a real go at them, I don't think this will get it sorted.

They do MOTs, and I half wonder whether they are p*ssed off because i didn't do the MOT there.

Even if they fix the missing issue (the anti-roll bar rubber), I am still going to have to cough up another £50 at the Council Test Centre for a 2nd re-test - I am wondering whether I would be in my rights to insist that my local garage to an MOT test for free?

Any views would be most welcome.

Cheers
Gopes

That pretty much puts you at his mercy if he plays it that way.

I would just go in and explain what has happened in a reasonable tone. If you get a positive response all well and good. If you don't then chalk it up to experience and get it fixed somewhere else.
