I've had a Morphy Richards compact breadmaker for a year and am very happy with it, great bread every time.
I used the use the 7g packets of tesco yeast (8 in a pack) but I switched to doves farm in the orange pack and the bread has seriously gone downhill. The loaves are about 2-3 inches flatter and because they haven't risen as much they are stodgier. Today the bread tasted really dry as well. I have been using the new yeast for a while so I have made white and brown loaves, timed and not timed. The yeast has been open for about 6 weeks (with a clip on to keep the air out) so maybe it's getting a bit old, but the bread has been naff since day one.
Does any one have any ideas why the new yeast is giving poor results? I don't want to change back cos I hate the fiddly packets, but I may have to if the loaves don't improve! Most disappointing.

Errm - you are using rapid-action yeast, right, and not regular dried yeast? It's just that, if you use regular yeast in the breadmaker the same way as you would the rapid-action yeast, you're liable to end up with a flatter, less risen, stodgier loaf........0

Yeh it's quick yeast, this one:

I had trouble with that yeast too:o
I always used the 7g packs but switched to that one and the loaves were awful.
Back to 7g packs now and it has been fine0 -

Oh maybe it's the yeast then! What a shame0 -
I bought some of the doves farm stuff and found that it's great for making rolls or pizza bases, in fact any sort of dough that I make in the bm but don't cook in it. My loaves also came out much less fluffy and with a much harder crust when I used it. The sachets are what I usually use and what I shall continue to use for bm loaves now!GC Oct £387.69/£400, GC Nov £312.58/£400, GC Dec £111.87/£4000

Can I ask what flour the people having poor results with Doves Farm are using? I have good results so far using Hovis yeast sachets and supermarket value/smartprice plain flour. Was thinking of trying Doves Farm but don't want poor results!!! I keep trying to buy proper bread flour to try it but when I'm stood there looking at the prices I can't bear to buy the more expensive optionLaughing at my ancient signature...voodoobaby now 10 years old:eek:0

I use Doves Farm in the orange pack at the moment for all my bread making, although I use Fermipan in the big red pack when I can get it. Both are fine"Knowledge is knowing that a tomato is a fruit. Wisdom is not putting it in a fruit salad"

I made my first loaf with Dove's yeast last night, and I was a bit worried after reading this thread. It was fine, though - the loaf actually rose a bit too much and nearly spilled over the top of the pan!
voodoozoe - I used Tesco's own brand white flour (standard, not value) for this loaf. I usually use Tesco's own except when I fancy something different to standard white or wholemeal, when I'll use Allisons or Dove's - they're more expensive but do different types of flour for more interesting bread.Back after a very long break!0 -
I use Doves farm too and have no trouble with it. I have even used it when it has been open well past the time it says on the packet. I do keep it in the fridge though.
I use hovis flour mostly, I used to use Tesco's own but found it went through a stage where it wasn't so good so I switched to Hovis.0
