Virgin Credit Card - When Closing.......

in Credit cards
I had my Virgin Credit card, but as i was not using it i decided to closed down the account and has i only had a 2p balance i was told that it would be wrote off, rather than take a DD or card payment for it.
However the next month i received my bill in November, again showing the 2p remaining balance. Again i rang up and i asked why the account is still open and i asked her, do you want me to pay it? Once again the advisor said that it will be wrote off.
Last night i read my mail and MBNA had sent me a letter saying i was in arrears with the and i had a 4p debt on my account, that i had not paid in Dec/Jan. I spoke to an advisor there, who saw the notes on the account and he could not understand why i had received the letter. I did pay the 4p off and made a complaint, which i stated that i wanted an official response from them. However i was concerned that it would affect my credit rating - but i was told that it would not has my account does not show any missed payments because the payment was refunded and then placed back onto my account.
Is anybody able to corroborate what the advisor told me is true?

MBNA report to both Experian and Equifax so either of them could give you a copy of your report. Ideally you'd have got the Virgin CS people to make a £10 credit to your bank account to cover the 2x£2 fees and your other costs."A child of five could understand this.
