Can NTL do this?

A while back NTL upgraded all broadbands to 1mb free of charge. My dads was upgraded but then he got an email saying we were using the internet too much and therefore would be downgraded back to our old service. Now he found out that he is paying £17.99 for under 1mb broadband (not sure the exact speed but i think 750??) when NTL are charging on their website £17.99 for 1mb.
Can they do this??
We emailed them and they said they won't talk it out over email and we will have to ring them which we will be doing tonight.
Sorry if this doesn't make sense.

i would say that they cant do this, i have had trouble with ntl and have learnt a neat trick which has yet to fail me. I phone up and ask to be put through to disconnections, i have been told by a valuable source that this department is actually known as customer retentions, they will roll over backwards to keep you as a customer. I usually say i can get my broadband cheaper somewhere else, or mention talk talk from the carphone warehouse, ntl are desperate to keep customers now. This has yet to backfire on me, but be aware i suppose it could.0

Yeah, we've been with them for years and i suppose its worth a try. We could ask to be put through as this was the last straw or something and see what they have to offer. Thanks lynsilooAccept that some days you're the pigeon and some days you're the statue.0

My boyfriend was with ntl and had no end of problems with them. He disconnected from them and changed his internet provider about a year ago but on the run up to his contract with them ending he received no end of offers from them trying to entice him to stay. Now that he is on another ISP he still gets letters from ntl begging him to come back. But he says their service was so bad he wouldnt go back no matter what they offered him.2008 Comping ChallengeWon so far - £3010 Needed - £230Debt free since Oct 20040

I just phoned, got put through to disconnections and they arranged disconnection for the end of the month, gave no incentives to stay what so ever. (obviously appreciated our custom ) so now i gotta find a cheaper broadband service.Accept that some days you're the pigeon and some days you're the statue.0

I did that recently but we nearly ended up with me filing litigatin agaist NTL. They gave me 3 months of full services free then 50% off the bradband for another 3 months and £10 off the tv package for 3 months exta too, plus 24/7 ont hd phone free for 3 months because it wasn't used at all. It depends how much they have messed you about as to how much you get and also who takes the call. It's always worth a shot.0 -
I've been with Wanadoo since I first got on the net in 1997 gradually upgrading the service as I went along and I have never ever had any problems with it at all.2008 Comping ChallengeWon so far - £3010 Needed - £230Debt free since Oct 20040
