Starter motor could be jammed, if you can see inside the engine bay, try tapping the starter with shaft of a hammer
  • ok thanks no idea where the starter moter is

Try putting it in first gear. Turn key just to unlock steering (ie nothing switched on). Handbrake off. Now go to back of car and rock it back and forward by pushing.

If starter is jammed this should free it. Jump in and try starting normally.

Will be easier if in 4th or 5th. But I agree with trying this.

It might still be the battery do the headlight look dim?

If I was having no joy grab a couple a burly blokes to give you a push start (use 2nd gear). Take it for a run before switching off (preferably on a hill) and see if it will start on the key then.
  • thanks for the help but it didnt work

i'll have to call rac and see if they can get it going

oh and theres no burly blokes about

    ta for the help

Have you tried a jump start? (You still can get lights on with a nearly flat battery)
  • just to update the outcome because its and old car something to do with the wires and started motor are possibly worn the rac guy said to just fiddle with the key in the ignation until it starts

booked car into a garage once i get paid to have it checked over.

    ta all for the help

Definitely sounds like starter motor and u don't need a man for that  Just a matter of locating and hitting, even easy to replace. Would recommend any woman gets a haynes manual for their car, if I can do these things anyone can :p
