I used to do my online shopping with Asda but have now started doing my shopping at Tesco but there is 1 thing i dont understand with tesco and that is why dont they take Visa Electron online for home shopping?
Most of the other supermarkets take it so why dont Tesco?

a question i have emailed Tesco with and received no reply
i go between Sainsburys & Asda for this very reason
I still wish Tesco did take it
and it would be hugely beneficial to them if they did
as most people can get an Electron card, when they cant get any other
so no doubt lots of people would start shopping with Tesco if they did take it
I shall watch this thread with interest0 -

I had this problem couple years ago. So used Asda but i also have opened a basic Barclays account and they give you a visa debit card which is accepted at Tescos so that may be worth a look if you really want to buy from Tescos.Member of Thrifty Gifty ~ Making money for Christmas 2010:£2 Savers club member no 40 ~ £54Amazon Vouchers BingoPort ~ £10Dooyoo Challenge Jan ~ £24.07 / £20.00 Yippee over target :j0

I was told it was because they needed to see the cardholder/signature. Can't understand it myself - some companies accept it, some don't?

They haven't updated their systems since Electron changed their cards a couple of years ago. At that point you could only use Electron if you were there, ie not over phone or internet. They keep saying that it will change but never does.If you find you are drinking too much give this number a call. 0845 769 75550

I have a co op bank account and have a cashminder account. This uses electron at the moment. I was having problems with not many people accepting this and they have now said they are phasing in visa debits for this reason. They will only issue these to new account holders, when your electron is due for renewal or your existing card is lost or damaged.
Shame about Tesco's as we have a store opening near us soon and would like to order online especially with the recent bad weather we have had.
Might have to accidently damage hubby's card so we can get a visa debit.0 -
i just got my new card last month
old one was expiring
they still sent me an electron0 -
hmm thats interesting. I rang them up a couple of months ago asking why not many places accepted electron and that I wasnt happy and they told me they were transferring over to visa debit with the reasons I outlined above.
Might have to give them another ring.0 -
I also had this problem with M&S - waited for three days before I received an email saying they couldn't process my card. It was Christmas so by the time I got this and tried to reorder using another card items were out of stock and discounts had expired
It also doesn't work in pay at pump.
Anyone out there who knows why? As far as I am aware electron only allows you money out of your account if there is money in so surely this is a good thing??0 -
