Rant & Rave *&%^*^$ M5 & M6 Road Works Rant & Rave

I live in Worcestershire and I had to go to Manchester yesterday, I have not been up for a month around 12th Dec I went up last I got stuck there all day last time and that was a Saturday morning as well.
Well I got stuck most of the day in the road works I am shore there is 6 sets between Worcester and North Manchester all 50 MPH and nice old SCAMSTERS everywhere and there seems nothing going on odd bloke sat in a van trying to look like he is doing something.
Also evey set of road works is at least 3 miles much much more in places.

What the hell are they doing now ????? I have not got a clue there was not a single person doing anything yesterday, it was not raining not snowing just cold and it was mid afternoon, when I traveled up the good old road works must have added at least 2 hours each way.
We all know Manchester to South Birmingham if you have only just got to go off the motorway is well under 2 hours.
I spent at least 8 hours in the car yesterday and for the life of me I cannot work out what there doing this time the M5 M6 junction has been dug up and had road cones on it since about 1982 I think.

I also did not travel at peak times I left 12 noon.

My Rant Over

The busiest road in North Wales is the A55 which runs from Chester to Holyhead. In some places, in particular between Conwy and Bangor, there are few, if any, alternative routes. So we're all really happy at the recent announcement that there will be roadworks lasting 18 MONTHS between Conwy and Bangor. And the reason for this year and a half delay, well it's to build a cycle path!

Personally I've got nothing against cyclists and in my younger days I used to cycle a lot myself. But the amount of chaos this will cause is ridiculous. This road is the main link between the ferry port at Holyhead and the rest of Europe, as well as being the main route for tourists heading to Anglesey and the Lleyn Peninsula. The cost to the local economy will be enormous and not forgetting the pollution caused by all the traffic jams that will inevitably occur.

The worst bit is that this same section of road recently had a contraflow in place for more than six months in order to build a cycle bridge, which is barely used. At that time I used to have travel through these roadworks to get to work and much like the OP I rarely saw any sign of activity. Thankfully I've now got a new job in the opposite direction so I be as badly affected by this as in the past.

Somebody in the Welsh Assembly Government clearly has got something against North West Wales.

I would like to trvel by train more often and leave the car at home. Especially for work. But unless you can book a ticket well in advance it is completely unecconomic.

Take next week, I have to go to London for the day on Tuesday. The cheapest return from Crewe is £201. Make that £402 since there are two of us going. Until train fares become more affordable I'm afraid I shall be spending far too much time stuck on the M6.

That's because you have gone for an open return. Pick specific times and you can get it lower. You can get it for £75 with decent out & return times.
