Have you tinted your eyebrows?

I had this done yesterday for the first time by a beauty therapist. I was too nervous to do them myself in case they ended up looking awful. It took a total of a couple of minutes, and I was out of the salon in five minutes. It cost £7.50.

I've seen Dylash in Boots and Superdrug, and I'm sure it would be far cheaper doing them myself. If you have, how did they turn out - were you pleased with the result?

  • I trained as a beauty therapist last year so I've dyed peoples brows, dyed my own and had mine dyed! TBH since I'm blonde with quite dark brows anyway I didn't need them dyed, it was all in the name of practice. I was pleased with the results, my brows looked ace!

    The tricks are:

    1. put vaseline on the skin round the brows with a cotton bud so the colour doesn't dye your skin
    2. brush it on in light feathery strokes onto the hairs rather than the skin
    3. don't leave it on for long - you can always tint again if need be but trying to lighten them is where it gets tricky
    4. always read the instructions and make sure you do a patch test (even if you've had your brows tinted before, different brands can cause reactions etc)

Juice, thanks for your advice, that's really helpful. Can I ask what is the best brush to apply the dye with, I was thinking of using an eyeshadow brush?

Does the solution not come with a brush? I've always just used the brush that came with my beauty kit. But I can't see an eyeshadow brush being massively wrong as long as the bristles aren't too stiff, a lip brush might be better?

You can also apply with a cotton bud but it's more fiddly as it's harder to do feathery strokes.

I didn't realise the brush might come with the kit. I haven't bought it yet. Thanks for that.

I'd be surprised if it didn't, but then again stranger things have happened.

Blue-black is the darkest-looking tint if that's the look you're after by the way, you'd think it would be black but it isn't!
  • Does it make a big difference to how you look? And does it grow out badly? Have been considering it lately but I'm not great at the whole beauty salon thing either:)

Hi, I did this myself for the first time last year and it is now one of my toptips, I didn't even think that I needed to do it but saw Jordan doing it on the TV and thought I would give it a go, I used Dark Brown lash and brow Tint from Superdrug cost about £7 and lasted me about 10 months doing it every 4 weeks so very mse;)I use the brush it comes with and leave it on for two or three times longer than it says on the pack it would seem that you get to a certain darkness and thats it no matter how long you leave it on for, I don't use Vaseline or cotton wool, its not that fiddly but then I am quite used to doing my own beauty treatments, the result is fuller, darker and richer looking brows, no need for brow make up and it just fades away after a few weeks, I know they need redoing when the arch is not as sharp as normal, I do have grey in my brows:( but didn't realise this until I tinted them:oso I would say its worth doing even if you think you don't need it, it does dye the skin underneath so if your good at this kind of thing you can give a natural looking shape to your brows as well:)Be aware of the black or blue/black, too dark is just aging and well, no one took beauty tips from Groucho Marks:rotfl:
Thank you for this site Martin
The time for change has come
    Good luck for the future
  • i think it makes such a difference to some people. some of my client are quite fair and even though they dont get it really black it makes them stand out a bit more and frame their face.

    Hi

I'm ginger and my eyebrows are almost clear they are so blonde. It doesn't actually go with my naturally hair colour so I dye my own brows. I use the dyelash brown dye. It comes with a brush so I use that to apply it and I don't bother with vaseline either. I just use the brush to apply then immediately after I use a cotton bud to clean off any dye on my skin. I only leave it on for around 3 mins because I don't need it to be as dark as it can go. If it's not dark enough I just re-apply for a few more mins.

I don't notice any re-qrowth, I just notice my brows are getting lighter. I did mine just before Christmas and I may do them again this weekend so it's a long lasting result.

Incidently, my eyelashes are also very pale and I find the dye doesn't take to them at all.

My one tip is when it says 'mix to a creamy texture' you must mix for a long long time and eventually you'll see it all come tigether as a sort of cream. If it's still seperated - it's not done!

    Good luck - have fun!

Home tinting is fab, I do my own lashes and brows, saves £££s!!

My tip is to use a mascara wand to brush it onto your brows, the disposable mini ones on beauty counters are the best!!!
