Get a website, even if you just create one single page on it.
    - Not everybody who wants things doing will have a broken PC, maybe they need it looking at for a niggle
    - Most people with a broken PC would have access to the Internet, or a friend who looks for them
    - Put your website address in any advertising you do and you can cut down on the space needed for the advert itself.
    - Put your website address on stickers stuck to every fixed PC
    - People will expect a website address on your business card, or at least a website address

You can advertise free at yell.com as a small business

I agree, create a website or maybe a simple blog about the services you offered. Also, you may also visit discussion boards about computers. Most of the time, there are members of those forums that are looking for repair services at a cheaper price.

I'd second the idea of a web site. If you make pages optimised with the name of the town or county where you live it should be relatively easy to get well listed.

I would think it odd if an IT company did not have a web site.

You canalso list for free in the yellow pages, thompson, yell.com and loads of other internet sites.

Paper adverts take a while to generate a good flow of business, IIRC its something like 26 views of an advert before people pay full attention to it and become aware of your presence.

Sounds like a plan. Personally Iw ould pay the little extra for your business cards not to have the vista print logo on the back, it just looks cheap and it isn't that much more expensive not to have it on there.

Leafleting can work well but you have to post a lot of them to get work from them, the takeup rate is only a few %. You will also need to keep leafleting the same areas over and over, like once month or once every two months.

    Good luck.

Why not try your local magazines for the area - see here
    http://www.thelocaleye.cc

I publish a couple of local magazines (this one isn't mine) with a couple of ads for computer repair bods in. One was here yesterday doing some work for me, saying some months he gets £60 of business from his advertising, other months it's £1K.

Get some small stickers that you can stick on a computer when it has been repaired, that way the customer knows who to call next time it breaks. Obviously ask permission first!
