so... the default never came off so i have written them a letter and now just waiting for a reply...

so in the meantime i was looking at other accounts on my credit file which i never even use so i closed them but now im told that i should pay them off but leave them open as closing them can damage my credit rating? is this true?!

argh its so difficult to improve your credit score!!! :(

why did you wait until now and not follow up with the letter back in January confirming the phone call as you were advised above.... hopefully they'll still be able to find the phone call still, otherwise you might be back to square one and have made things unessessarily harder for yourself.

i was ill around the time and it basically just kept getting put off as i had a lot on with work and illness and before you know it a months passed.

also i opened a joint current account with my bf, me with a bad credit rating and him with a good one, if we have a joint current account can it affect his credit score negatively?
  • I'm currently having a similar problem with o2.

It's harder to get a default removed from a mobile phone company, But I remember reading somewhere that although mobile phone contract defaults aren't covered by the same laws as bank defaults, They are however covered by contractual law, so it's their obligation to send out a default notice warning letter giving 28 days? for settlement before action is taken.

Can you prove you cancelled the account? I don't assume your bank can tell you the date the last payment was taken? It depends on how long your bank stores data, fight it to the end though, if you played by the book then surely they've illegally blackened your credit file?

Yes, Mobiles are service agreements not credit agreements. So yes as above they have to apply to the laws about sending out default notices.

There are two ways of constructing a software design: One way is to make it so simple that there are obviously no deficiencies, and the other way is to make it so complicated that there are no obvious deficiencies

  • Thanks!

I,m still waiting for an initial response from them.

id just write to them initially asking for them to remove the default as thats all i did and they have obviously removed it... if you dont hear back or it doesnt get removed then i would follow on with the letter listed on that link n use that one as it make references to legal stuff i think so it sounds more formal... good luck!
