PPI reclaiming virgin

Hi all, I've only just joined this forum, please be nice to me cos I'm a bit naive about all this PPI reclaiming thing!
Basically I want to move house this year and when we talked to a mortgage advisor I showed him the paperwork from a secured loan we had taken out in 2006 for £40,000. He noticed we had paid a horrendous amount for a PPI and that we had grounds to claim it back.
So my first step is that I have already sent off the first template letter from this website to the company (its First Plus by the way, from what I can gather a lot of people on here have had trouble with them) and I have contacted the Financial Ombudsman who are sending a complaints form out to me.
Is this the correct way to go about it? I would be grateful if there is anyone in my position who is just starting out with their claim that I can keep in touch with and maybe help each other :hello:
Thanks alot xxx

Hi and welcome.;)
Was it actually First Plus that sold you the loan or did you use a broker?
If not then your right to write to First plus to try to reclaim on the reasons you may have for being mis sold the PPI.
What normally happens is, they have 8 weeks in full to respond, if they do not respond at all by the 8 weeks, then you have the rights to complain to the Financial ombudsman service (FOS).
Or, if FP do not uphold in your favour, again go to the FOS.
However some companies give you the opportunity to write back with further information before giving the final decision.
Please let us know how you get on and we shall take it from there.
Did you post by recorded delivery?
This is your proof of posting, so you know when the letter have reached them, you can track this down on the Royal mail website tracking, then keep an eye on the 8 weeks.
Hope this helps, its always handy to have the FOS complaints form just in case.
Fingers crossed for you.

LouLou, do not worry, but give them a ring, ask them if they received a letter dated XX/XX/XXXX, if they confirm they have then just count your 8 weeks, it is up to you of course if you did want to send the copy of this by recorded post, just in case though.:D;)
And your most welcome, please keep us posted XXThe one and only "Dizzy Di"0 -

Just had a letter back from First Plus saying it was Norton Finance that sold us the loan and the policy so I'm gonna start again and do that first template letter to them instead. I'm expecting a form to be sent to me from the Financial Ombudsman so I'll fill it in with Norton's details instead of First Plus.
Has anyone else had dealings with Norton Finance?
Thanks alot to everyone who has helped me so far :heartsmil0 -
