Car on IVA

If I buy a car for my partner on her IVA do they have any claim on it? E.g. should I just keep it in my own name - she does need a car for work so is an essential item.

I have been wiondering this regarding myself. I believe you can put the car actually in her name, as she is only legally the 'keeper' then, the document may imly but does not nesceserily constitute ownership. This way it will keep the insurance happy who like the main driver to be the ;registered keeper'...keep the receipt of purchase made out to you, and that proves your the actual owner. they may playup abit but that was what I was told the legality of it is....any oneelse want to comment?
  • You can do this Fundin so long as you can prove that you are covering the payments. I don't know if you are thinking about paying for the car outright or using credit to pay for it. The car can be registered to your partner as Memberme has said - for insurance purposes sometimes it is better but you technically own the car and pay for it (it always have to be proven though for this to be acceptable)

One last thing to remember is if you have done a Joint I&E for the purpose of her IVA then this would change unless you are using savings to pay for the vehicle, taking out credit will lessen the household disposable income in turn lessening the amount of DI allocated to your partner.
