Good credit card idea for travelling??

Hi All!

I'm going away for 5 months to Australia, new Zealand and Thailand and am a bit confused about the best way to manage my cash. I applied for a Nationwide debit card as it has the best rate but didn't get accepted. However this (possibly hare-brained) scheme came to me and I was wondering if it would work....

Take out the below as a credit card, and set up a direct debit for "Pay in full" so I do not end up owing

Overall Winner: Santander Zero. Worldwide 0% exchange rate load & ATM withdrawals.
The Santander Zero (formerly Abbey) card has no foreign exchange loading anywhere, so you get the best possible exchange rate, and uniquely it doesn't charge a fee for withdrawing cash.

The only negative is its high 27.9% cash withdrawal interest rate, which you pay even if you clear the card in full. Yet as that’s roughly £2 for a month per £100, it's still cheaper than paying interest PLUS the cash withdrawal fees on other cards.

THEN....use a cashcard that Nationwide issued to withdraw cash if/when I need is and split money between the two accounts? I am assuming I cannot set a direct debit with a cash card also?

Finally, if anyones still reading, will I be able to manage money between my nationwide cash card and Nat West debit card with online banking to ensure I always have cash in my nationwide when I need it and Nat West when I need to pay Santander?

EDIT: I haven't had a credit card before or any credit type things so I reckon it would be good towards building a credit history too, would this be correct?

Thanks in advance, here's hoping there's a genius out there reading with some advice!
