Can Tesco take money from my credit card without authorisation?

Hi, I was wondering if anyone could help with this query i have. I bought fuel at a Tesco express garage for £40.02. I bought nothing else. I have since checked my bank statement to find that Tesco have charged me another £17.89 without my authorisation. Firstly, I didn't buy anything other than the fuel, and secondly, how did they take any money from my card without my authorisation and is this legal?

Help please.

Thanks

Did you pay@pump? Is the £17.89 a confirmed transaction or is it pending?
  • Didn't pay at the pump, paid in the shop for the fuel, got a receipt for that. Only found out that they had charged me the £17 after checking our statement. Spoke to the manager and he doesn't know what the charge was for. I'm just concerned about them taking money from me that I didnt authorise.

Ok bang goes my theory. I guess that if you haven't already, get in touch with your card provider and inform them that you do not recognise the transaction, they will probably send you a form to fill out and they will take it from there.

    Absolutely agree with the above!
It's not that Tesco took your money and it's case "can they do that" - of course they cannot and you will sit with your head down.
BUT - the question is - was it mistake or fraudulent transaction?

So get in touch with your bank, say you don't recognise the transaction and let them deal with it!

Are you sure its not a transaction you have done on a different date? , as others have said you need to contact your card provider

  • Many thanks for the advice. Spoke to the manager of the shop, he didnt have a clue why we were charged the extra, and has given us a refund.
