Hi
I have just observed my mum allowing her cat to lick her tub of activia when she's done with it in the evening. Given cats aren't meant to have dairy anyway and that activia supposedly has all this other crap in, is this safe??
Her cat is very cute and I am worried she might be harming her

It's lactose (milk sugar) that some cats can't digest, and yoghurt is low in lactose. However Activia will probably be packed with sucrose (table sugar) which could potentially cause dental decay.Declutterbug-in-progress.⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️⭐️0

Mistoffelees love yoghurt (and creamed rice) and always licks the lids and empty cartons. It does not seem to bother him - he appears to like the peach activia at the moment. Grizzy does have a problem with dairy so does not share this lid licking treat. I guess it depends on the cat although if someone enlightens me further i guess my little boy goes back to chocolate as a treat ( the catnip variety!)

Yoghurt lids and rinsed out pots are part of the 'tithe system' in my house. ie If I am eating it then a cat wants a portion of it as his right! However I would not buy Activia....Rachel's organic seems to be our favourite and Diabetic cat only gets the unsweetened variety ( or Organic half fat creme fraiche !!! )0

I shouldn't worry too much, as long as it's only a very occasional treat. They probably find worse things to eat outside.. Mine can hear the lid coming off from miles off, he obsolutely loves the stuff. And actually, yoghurt can help to settle mild tummy upsets in cats as it contains probiotics and lactobacillii (according to my vet anyways).0

i dont see the problem - I wouldnt actually feed a cat dairy - but the occasional lick cant do much harm!0

Would it not bother you if it was really ugly?******** Never be a spectator of unfairness or stupidity *******"Always be calm and polite, and have the materials to make a bomb"0 -
My dog has a teaspoon of yakult every morning, the vet recommended it as she has a delicate stomach.

She looks like my cat, and we got her that scratching mat today!
Mine likes to lick yoghurt pots as well.0 -
geri, we put the mat over the area of the rug she likes to scratch but she can tell the difference!!!
She's also a bit pudgy but she's lost loads of weight already (got fat in rescue centre because she had an arm injury)
