What version of Word do you have (help >about).
It's unusual (but not impossible) for a home PC to just have Word and not Office - are you sure you don't have Works, which is a different thing.0 -
Most computers as Davb said get shipped with Full working Microsoft WORKS which is like a cutdown version of office and a Trial version of Microsoft Office which stops working after so many days or uses.
OU courses qualify for the Student discount on MS Office anyway so you could always buy it with the discount you have it for life and if its a major part of your course requirments then worth the money.
If however your requirements are computer printed assignments then you can use the free open office, which can be saved as Word doc files if your lectures want the files emailed.Survey earnings total 2009 £417, 2010 £875, 2011 £5740 -

If you have a very old version it might not open the later versions. However, you could ask someone to convert the file/s by doing a 'save as' and selecting the required Word version.Marching On Together
