Well the kids made cookies this morning and they had hotdogs for lunch. I also got in a pack of mini blueberry muffins from aldi. Tonights tea is mainly italian as part of my world cup cooking but we are having sweet waffles with some nice vanilla icecream and a fruit coolie. (we don't often have proper pudding but I have lots of homegrown strawberries and blackcurrants and a few blackberries from the feezer that need using up)I like to live in cloud cuckoo land :hello:0

Yep it is an American thing - had a great time over there a few years ago.
Aussielass - tell us about Australian hols.
Are we Brits so limited in our thinking that we cannot at least say (hope you have a good time) - or have a good holiday?
We don't celebrate 4th of July. That's american. I didn't even realise it was on until I read this thread.
We have Australia Day - (January) when Captain Cook *discovered* Australia.
Queens Birthday - (June)
Anzac Day - (April)honour of men & women from WW1 & 2 & Vietnam
Labour Day - (May) when unions stepped in for fair wages etc
That's about it. They are all on the first half of the year unfortunatly.
So you get a few public holidays the first six months and then after June it's a long stretch until Xmas. Don't worry about the world coming to an end today. It's already tomorrow in Australia.

I have good July 4th memories from my time in the US in 04 - I worked at a summer camp, and 'my' group of girls and and the 3 staff were due to be picked up from a 2 day camping trip - but they forgot us! So we sat in a graveyard eating peanut butter sandwiches and bananas...

Well I ate too much!
I celebrate them all -st georges, st patricks etc. I think we get too caught up in all the politics of an event, I just enjoy the day!!
Thanks for all the meal ideas!!0
