returning to work & benefits

my oh has been offered 2 jobs, 1 to start next month and one to start in april. hes thinking of taking the job that starts nxt month.

i want to call up and cancel benefits completely because hes going self employed. although tax credits only ask for his profits, i honestly do not want to have to pay back anything because i have been overpaid in case he makes over the estimated income

i heard that housing benefits pay rent for the 1st month ur back at work, is this true? my hb office is busy and iv left my name and number and waiting for a callback within 24 hrs so i do not know

Sorry if I'm being stupid but is he starting a job as well as going self employed?

Just keep using the figures from the previous tax year for tax credits.
The housing benefit run on will depend on what benefit you are on and how long you were on it for? Do you work also?
  • No my oh is not doing both, he has been given a job offer in which he has to register as self employed and he is responsible for his taxes.

We are receiving tax credits based on this yrs income, not last years!

I am on maternity leave, due to go back in about 2 months

I would check this. Only the HRMC can decide if you are "self employed", there is strict criteria to pass.
