It would not matter, if the OPs SSP has ended she will be able to receive half pay and ESA at the same time if it is contribution based ESA.

Many thanks...that has certainly taken a load off my mind which is not what I am needing right now.

Do I just phone my local DWP and ask for the forms in preparation? I am trying to get everything organised beforehand.

Yes you can if you are no longer entitled to SSP.
