6 year PPI cutoff ?

Having managed to claim PPI back from Egg and then HFC on loans, I decided to try HFC for PPI on a GM Credit Card.
I sent them an SAR request and they helpfully followed up with a load of statements that clearly include a monthly payment for PPI in 2001, 2002 and 2003.
My account was subsequently closed when I changed to another bank in 2003.
HFC have written to me saying that they have been unable to locate any PPI payments in the last 6 years on the account (which is correct) and therefore I cannot claim anything back.
Are they correct?

Hi hun
If the account have not been running at all for the last 6 years then yes this can be correct, but if you were still paying for the finance in these last years they should hold at least some details.;)
Did they also return your £10 payment?
Have you any old statements from this account at all, because if so just as long as you have an account number from this you can still continue to try to reclaim.
Well done on your other reclaims.:beer:The one and only "Dizzy Di"

Sorry, perhaps I wasn't very clear. They sent me a lot of paperwork from my SAR request. Among this were old statements including some from 2001, 2002 and 2003. On these statements it clearly says "payment protection insurance" along with a small amount.
The statements run up to August 2008, on the same account, although there are no transactions after 2003. I recall that when I asked them to close the account they simply said to destroy the card and a new one would not be issued when the original one expired.
The wording of todays letter from them says "upon my personal review, I am unable to locate a record of any PPI premiums being applied to your account during the past six years. I am therefore unable to meet your request for a refund"
What they are saying here is correct, but as the account was not closed until 2008, I thought I could still claim PPI ?0 -
