concrete roads? why they don't do it? Cant see it being damaged, especially reinforced concrete! The plus is that absolutely no damage can be made. However I guess any roadworks will be an absolute nightmare!

God no! That is one of the worst surfaces to drive on for just about all reasons. It's very uncomfortable, buzzy, noisy. It IS long wearing, but you'd go out of your way to avoid it:)

Yep, it is getting better but it still fails in the cold and indeed people would complain about the noise.

I dont agree with any of that...

The volume of cars on the roads has more than doubled in the last 30 years for starters. Our inspectors still inspect the roads on a daily basis and repairs are issued and completed promptly.

I can only speak for my local council in Scotland but the suggestion that paying out claims for repairs to cars as an alternative to filling pot holes is laughable. We are very, very rarely liable for claims regarding damage to cars from potholes because our duty under the roads scotland act is to periodically inspect roads and repair potholes outwith a reasonably practicable depth.

If you drive past a dangerous pothole every morning on the way to work pick up the phone and report it.

Jeez the amount of times I spot people reporting faults on silly internet websites like fixmystreet.com rather than emailnig their local council directly.

You may not agree with it but I can assure you that it is true. Every word of it!

My local council has always had a poor record for potholes. I have claimed compensation myself for a trashed wheel and tyre. But they are by no means the worst. I know for a certain fact that some councils regard it as cheaper to pay compensation than properly maintain their roads. They do the bare minimum and set a budget for compensation claims accordingly. I have actually spoken to staff at councils who do this.

Bear in mind that most councils don't insure anything now. They 'self-insure', and that includes vehicles in many cases. I suspect that things may be very different in Scotland, especially out in the sticks. Certainly it is not practicable for everyone to report every pothole here. The concept is laughable!

I drove from Birmingham centre to Sutton Coldfield this afternoon and saw literally hundreds of potholes. Some were a yard wide and a foot deep. Coupled with torrential rain it made for appalling driving conditions. Had I wished to report them (or even note them down) I would be there till next Christmas. Reality check required......;)
