Builder is asking us for more money?

OP, did you get quotes from any other builders? If yes, would it be worthwhile contacting them to see if their quote included having to do this work? i.e. was it something noticeable, or did they all overlook this?Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')

A friend of mine had a garage knocked down in favour of an extension.
Turned out the footings weren't deep/strong enough due to some of those Laylandi Trees in the neighbours garden.
That cost an additional £1k to dig deeper and fit some steel strengtheners in the footings.
He mentioned it to the neighbour after the extension was almost complete,
"Oh, you should have said something" the neighbour said, "I have always hated them, I would have cut them down!!"
