An affordable PC for gaming?

I need to get a PC and as the kids will be using it too I want one that will be suitable for gaming. I can't afford one of the "specialist" build ones as I only want to try and spend around £500-600. Any ideas? When I Google about it talks of different graphics cards etc and tbh it might as well be in Dutch, I have no idea what I will need. Advice (esp from current gamers) gratefully received!!

Do you need a complete system or do you alreayd have a monitor, keyboard and mouse?
Any idea what sort of games they're likley to be playing? It's my problem, it's my problem
If I feel the need to hide
And it's my problem if I have no friends

a few example titles would help......0 -
They have been playing things like Dragon Age and Command and Conquer lately, although they are also keen to get Aion (I am still not sure about that one though after 2 years of WoW hell!) so it would be good to have something that can cope with online games.
Oh and yes, I have got a wireless mouse, keyboard and monitor from my current PC I could use!0 -
Have a look at this site - http://cyri.systemrequirementslab.com/srtest/intro.aspx - it will tell you minimum and recommended spec.
Do you already have an operating system? If so maybe just over half your budget0 -
If you already have the peripherals you should be able to get something no problem.
Have a look at the recent thread dazedandconfused started about upgrading. The final spec he used should be fine. It's my problem, it's my problem
