Balance transfer refused..why?

We applied for a new card with the intention of doing a balance transfer, when we applied they asked for the number etc.of the card which would be paid off with the balance transfer. We were accepted for the card but when it arrived and we activated it then requested they do the balance transfer they said they could not do it on our old card as the computer had rejected it. So we are now stuck with a card with a balance that we cannot pay off within two months, and cannot transfer this balance to the new card in order that we can pay it off within 6 months as we had planned. Help please. Given they requested the card details on the application can they do this?

What card have you just opened? And which one are you transferring the balance from?
It could be that either the new and old cards are from different brands of the same umbrella company, or the card with the balance requires a "Manual Transfer". Vanquis need a manual transfer, I suppose some others might too.Cashback Earned ¦ Nectar Points £68 ¦ Natoinwide Select £62 ¦ Aqua Reward £100 ¦ Amex Platinum £48

Hello,
I'm having exactly the same problem with the Asda Reward Card!
I also took it out to transfer a balance but they have told me in different phone calls that there is a problem with Barclaycard 'at the moment' and I could try again in a week or so to transfer the balance, but then I've also been told that the balance transfer has been denied completely and there is no point trying again. Although it isn't good news for either of us, I am glad to hear I'm not the only one. It's also interesting that the cards are from different banks but still being denied.
I get the feeling Asda were keen to get customers based on the balance transfer deal but are turning the transfers down to encourage spending on the cards instead.
I'm so appalled by the poor customer service and ongoing difficulties - I've never had a satisfactory answer about why the transfers are denied - that I've decided to get rid of the card asap by paying off the purchases I've made. Not impressed with them at all!0 -
That's santander all over... Sometimes I wonder who has the greater incompetence; Vanquis or Santander... I suppose two very different ways of being just as "special"...Cashback Earned ¦ Nectar Points £68 ¦ Natoinwide Select £62 ¦ Aqua Reward £100 ¦ Amex Platinum £48

It's because the destination card doesn't have a clearing house. Like a store card0
