Your opinion - are products like clearasil a waste of money

Cosmetic companies spend a lot of money on marketing products that puport to make people look younger, more beautiful etc. , make teeth appear whiter
.. and they can charge a premium for it. ... cos they know millions of teenagers and young adults are prepared to spend a massive amount on their looks.
look at a tiny tube of zovirax (aciclovir to stop Herpes i.e. cold sores) - it does not cost £6 to make, more like 6p. Their profit margins are insane!!
On spot creams - is there any point? Surely washing your face and having a good diet is good enough?
Ofcourse, I do stress all this is personal opinion only.. not fact
what do you reckon?

hehe,
when i was younger whenever i used any of these cleaning products i got spots and lo and behold when i did not use them my skin was fine
I get really annoyed by the adverts on tv and find them to be completely shameless. I also love seeing the stats that state 75% of women agreed such and such a product helped them. What about the other 25%? thats quite a large volume of people who it will do nothing for.
Huge money being made by these companies, but remember, "your worth it"

I think generally some products do have a use, for example E45 works wonders on my itchy red dry flaky skin - yum yum.
I am not convinced that spot creams are any good, they are caused by excess oils in the skin brought on by hormonal imbalances - nothing to do with diet of course. The key is to avoid getting bacteria onto your face, simply not touching your face works wonders, next as pointed out you just need to keep it clean as part of a normal washing routine. Of course its not as simple as that for those with serious acne but the solution for them is certainly not as simple for them as a magic lotion, and should seek professional guidance.
I think if you are concerned then go do some research, understand the problem so you can understand the solution. As a chemist I often am baffled by some of the pseudo chemistry quoted in adverts, some seriously strange brand names made to sound like complex chemical solutions to your problems, do people really think that a long complex name = good? To me the more complex something sounds the more reasons there are to distrust it, the harder it is to understand whats really in there...
Save your money, looking healthy and young is mostly down to excersise, good diet, and good normal hygiene consideration. If you dont get that right, no potion will ever save you...Debt: a bloomin big mortgage

Well there's always the placebo effect.
My favourite is those body firming moisturisers. I read the small print on this and apparently it's clinically proven to be effective. Hmmm, but the mere fact of having to rub this stuff in twice a day what with all the exercise involved not to mention stimulated circulation could probably have brought about that half an inch reduced around the waist.
Another good one, mascara. Some claim to increase volume, some claim to increase length and some forcefully curl your lashes - however all each one does is add a layer of black paint to what u already got.
However spot creams I do believe in, after you get a spot they can reduce the inflamation around the spot though not the spot itself. That's good enough for me.bad hair day...0
