I received info abt this from CNET, I currently use Avast 4.8 home edition. Should I download the newer version? Or stay as I am, if I did install would I need to unistall the 4.8??

. I know that version 5 has been in beta for a while; if it's out of beta then no reason not to install; colleagues of mine have been using the beta without any problems whatsoever.

However you are correct in saying some people have had problems after installing, but then others have reported the install went OK.
A problem seems to arise if your computer has Cyberlink DVD installed on it.0 -
i have a new netbook without cyberlink on so i think i will install tomorrow

I've just downloaded it and installed over the old version without doing any uninstall. It went on just fine and has picked up the old registration. It required a reboot as you'd probably expect with Windows.
This is on a Lenovo S12 netbook running XP SP30 -
I waited a while but have now downloaded version 5 over the existing version 4.8. No problems at the moment (windows XP).
I think they sorted the Cyberlink DVD problem pretty quickly.0
