Powergen Capped Rates
Hi,
Sorry if this has been covered, but I'm in a hurry.
My current capped tarif with Scottish Power ends this week, so I'm looking to swap.
My figures are
Gas 20600 kwh pa @ 1.237 + 12.51 standing charge /day (£45.66pa)
elec 7333 kwh pa @ 4.77 + 14.31 standing charge /day. ((£52.23pa)
This has worked out very nicely.
(However the robdogs only capped the unit price, and kept raising the standing charge, but I'm still winning)
Looks like Powergen do a decent capped tarif to 2010, but naturally, they don't tell you any figures.
ukpower.co.uk reckon the figures are
gas 4572 kwh @ 4.119 rest @ 2.570 (ooh look, 2.570 is the same as Scottish Power)
electric 7.843 (ooh look, same as SP)
This gives an equivalent standing charge of 4572x(4.119-2.5710)
or £70.82, compared to the £97.89 I was paying.
The new SP capped standing charge is £134.47,
so on the face of it, I can save £63.65 a year.
Being suspicious, I assume that the 4572 units will go up massively as soon as I sign up, so increasing my effective standing charge.
Am I right?
Do they have a history of this?
How can I find a standing charge capped tarif rate for Powergen?
(I think the best plan is a gas powered CHP setup at home, but I can't afford it)

I'm having trouble with your maths. I wish I could get away with annual bills like that for those consumptions.:D 0 -
You should consider hanging on - the next round of price increases is likely around now - consumers won't, of course, notice increases now as their Summer usage is low."Some say the cup is half empty, while others say it is half full. However, this is skirting around the issue. The real problem is that the cup is too big."0

It is only the standing charge I worked out.
The unit price is the same so it doesn't matter
The prices are capped, so the increase has to be the standing charge keeps going up, otherwise they go bust as the wholesale price is more than the capped unit price.
I won out before, because we have the electricity consumption of a small city.
Stop Press:
I have the figures from Powergen
gas 4572 @ 4.556 rest @2.51
electric 900 @ 17.54 rest at 8.894
9% discount for dual fuel dd and 1 bill, overall by excel £1219.96
Scottish power by excel £1239.05 , but they offer me discounts of £15.75 and £10.50 for the online billing and direct debit, so SP are CHEAPER.
So how come Powergen said they can save me £30, and energy helpline reckon £71 cheaper?
My old calculated bill is £702.52  :mad:I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

Powergens Gas Primary unit threshold has been the same for years and there is no plans for a rise in that.
The electric threshold for primary units was raised in march from 800 per year to 900 units. So that has increased by 25 units a Quarter.
Also powergen are changing there capped product soon I believe so If you want to be with them I would seriously think about transferring before the 10th July.0
