Solar panel installation?

Has anyone had a solar panel (or two!) installed on their roof? Just wondering what the best prices are coming in at? I've got Everest coming round next week for a quotation on solar panels and also a few other possibilities. Just thought I'd do some homework first to see what other people have been charged.

Haven't had them done myself although I'm watching the market with interest - however to help people to help you, could you clarify if its solar electric (PV) that you are thinking of or solar hot water?Adventure before Dementia!0

Hello,
Sorry, I realised just a few minutes ago that I should've clarified that for people! Hence I popped back to find your reply. Ideally we are looking to have a PV solar panel installation.
I've been looking into the grants available which appear to be between £2000 to £2500 (maximum) for home owners. Am just looking to hear from other people who have had one installed and what their experience was and indeed how much their panel(s) cost.
Got a few people lined up for quotes now - one being Everest (as I was getting them out for a quote for other things too) and I've also got a few local companies lined up too now. 0 -
dont sign up to anything yet. do some more research.
the payback period will probably take 20 yrs or more likely never.
unless you DIY, its a waste of money.
ps
and esp not with the Everest con men.Get some gorm.0 -
Must admit, I will be very cautious of what Everest come out with for all of the quotations we're after from them - I have heard very good but also very bad things about them.
With regards to the installation of a PV solar system, looking into it, I don't think our roof (or budget!) is big enough to enable an installation big enough that we'd be able to sell any back to the grid but if it could mean a massive reduction in our electricity bills between say March and October then that surely has to be a good thing.
My first quotation will be taking place on Monday from a local based company that offers PV installations and are eligible for us to apply for the grants so we'll see what their quotation comes out with, it'll probably be crazy high but we'll see! 0 -

Be prepared for outrageous prices and salesmen moving in with you
I wouldnt touch Everest with a 20 foot bargepole let alone a 10 foot one
In fact I go even worse than that and say I wouldn't even send one of them to my worst enemyHas anyone had a solar panel (or two!) installed on their roof? Expect hard sell.
"Sign today and agree to be a 'show home' and we'll give you a 50% discount"
But you'l only get to this point after at least an hour, by which time you're head is spinning and 50% sounds great.
So, only £10,000 instead of £20K !
In about 30 years you'll be in profit.0
