Hi all, just to add to all this I was looking to do the CompTIA A+ course with them, to sum it all up,
There rep called me on my mobile all sounded very convincing and quite pushy saying how the courses started in september and I was about to go on holiday for 2 weeks, I paid the £60 deposit over the phone by debit card and had the agreement in the post to sign before I left (Which I haven't signed yet as I thought I'd talk it over with the Mrs and google etc) After reading things such as this website and others I've decided not to go ahead with it and just put the £60 down to loss for my own stupidity etc
Now I've returned from my holiday I have all the starter pack boxed waiting me do they require me to return this lot back to them? And since I haven't signed the agreement I am good to turn away from all this arn't I? Just looking for alittle clarification I guess as I've emailed them asking to cancel my enrolment but I haven't herd anything back from them yet.
Could someone just ease my mind alittle?0 -

What other sites you seen?
I'm gonna have a look at the books etc that come, does state in the 14 days to cancel you have to return all books etc.
Have asked the travel compaines and the course I'm doing is something they look for, however if the course provided by these is any good is a different question all together.............!!!0 -

Any idea where they must be returned too? I was thinking I wouldn't get the proper books until I'd paid? So should I just ship all these off back to them?
Other sites like citizenfreepress.blogspot.com/2009/11/con-home-learning-college.html and loads more that a simple google shows0 -

However I've literally just sent the agreement plan in the post today, so I presume I get this 14 days to cancel as per the contract I've just signed?
Clearly states 14 days as per the distance selling act.
This protects me, right? I've just gotta send the books back if I dont like them?
yes unfortunately! it was rubbish! I signed up and was given the course books, very badly written and outdated. They were using very old case studies and data. I have since gone on to complete the BTEC travel and tourism at college for FREE and know that the materials given would not have got me through the assignments or exams. I had no contact from the company or tutor and my lecturers at college all said that the price was far to high and I was right to end it. All in all I done 5 years at college studying travel and tourism as well as the business aspects and it has been the best thing I have done and it wouldnt have happened if I continued that course.
Not only was there that but at the time I was only 17 when the sales man came round. He took me out of the room away from my parents and partner and gave me the hard sell for over an hour. I was pushed into signing a direct debit agreement even though I was underage and he knew it as he would not leave and felt totally out of my comfort done. Soon after I went to the CAB and they sorted it within a few days and I was free from it as I was underage.0 -
I "looked" at doing 2 course one of which was the CompTIA A+ last year.
Luckily I didn't allow myself to get sucked in.
The advisor on the phone was obviously reading from a script both for the detail and for what it would do for my professional status.
He quoted the fees and the finance arrangements which seemd Ok for a real course in this field. I got suspicious when he seemed to get more excited by the finance side than the course. Didn't seem that bothered in offering discount for payment upfront either.
In the end I said I would think about it and did some research.
The courses available from direct suppliers were cheaper but not massively. Obviously can't comment on the quality of either option.
When I kept getting chaser calls it put me off completely.

Sadly I've looked into doing it at College and all full time courses, I work full time (and need too) so that wasn't an option.
To be fair so far I haven't had a problem with the course however have not had the books yet (said would be a few days, which I'll allow them 4 days at most)
Got my 14 days to try and see, however I posted in the forum on the VLC (online learning part of the course) and it fairness the tutor replied pretty quickly and having read some of the forum he does appear to post and reply.
Like I said I've got two weeks and I'll use that!
Guess if I wasnt working I'd be able to do college however its long distance or nothing for me as the colleges near me dont do it in the evening.
Please prove my doubts wrong HLC! :eek:0 -

Good luck with it, I can understand if the colleges are too far and don't offer what you want. This for me has been a few years now so hopefully things will have changed and improved since I signed up, surely they can't still be using the same rubbish that they sent me anyway0 -

Thanks
Hope so too!
Have you found the qualifcation helpful?
I work in the finance sector at the moment but want a career change.......0 -
Just an update, I decided to call HLC and of course unsurprisingly there was no reference at all to any emails that I'd sent, so I politely bullsh*tted my way out of it saying I'm following a different career path now, He then (Pretty much) proceeded to tell me how much a terrible I was saying how someone else could have had that position in there "limited" (I call bull on that) placements!
Now I've just ordered a book off amazon and downloaded the iPhone app to see how I get on with that for a few months! I feel as tho I had a lucky escape tho.0 -
Just an update, the books have come already (was waiting at neighbours)
Quick scan through and look updated (ish) 2006 they copyrighted in, guess the travel and tourism trade doesnt really change that much.
Maybe i'm lucky but aint had an issue yet, even set my Direct Debt up for the day I personally requested!
Luck?0
