Delia / kenwood mini chopper - any recipes ?

Hi
I bought the kenwood mini chopper that Delia smith recommend for cheats.
( It was £16.38 on Amazon- price keeps going up and down )

Apart from slicing up onions and herbs can anyone recommend any good recipes for it. It seems really small so Im hoping I havnet made a mistake purchasing it !
thanks x

Used mine yesterday when making meatballs, did the breadcrumbs, onion ,carrots and garlic in it. Love it because it is small, so therefore used alot, unlike the larger one which lives most of the year in the cupboard:)

You will find that you can use it almost daily in summer, for dressings and marinades, herbs and sauces, I love mine, it is so easy to wash up and leave on the worktop .
  • I used to use mine for chopping everything - breadcrumbs, cheese, boiled eggs, onions, cornichons, herbs all sorts BUT the blimmin' thing has broken - only lasted a few months and I can't find the receipt (bought before being MSE and keeping all receipts as part of spending diary :()

    Have fun

  • Anyone got any other recipes to use it?

Like sauces for pasta or salads?

NormanBean, MSE had a linky to a cut out page for your consumer rights (V useful it is too - I've won an argument in a shop with it ;) ) which states that receipts aren't vital for faulty goods, you simply need to prove purchase eg a bank statement.

Hi Matmcgregor - I got a mini chopper recently with my hand blender. It has been very useful for making curry pastes in particular! Absolute life saver.

My Jamie ministry of food book has quite a lot of pastes like this. Is there any particular type of sauce you are looking for?

I've got a big Magimix and a little Cuisinart chopper (same size as Delia's small one) and I find I'm using the little one more and more because its so much easier to wash up. I do: breadcrumbs, chop veg (carrots, onions, celery etc) my fave topping for things like fish pie - make a cheese sandwich with lots of butter/marge and cheese and one piece of bread, fold it in two, pull off bits and whizz, then you have lovely cheesy buttery crumbs which get all crispy in the oven. I do soups in batches, vinaigrettes with all sorts of herbs, mayonnaise (you can just pour the oil into the lid of mine and it drips through a drop at a time, which is perfect).
pasta sauces - sweat onion and garlic, then add a tin tomatoes and a lot of herbs and whizz in machine if you want it smooth. Tuna with mayo for sandwiches, or if you want a smooth tuna sauce for a tuna bake - could be with tomatoes or a white sauce. Parsley for parsley sauce. Cooked apples for puree (say for apple sauce), cooked dried apricots or prunes or ripe pears with yoghurt to make a lovely fruity yog, or fresh berries in summer....I could go on. You can do most of these things with a sharp knife or other non-electric tool but it is so quick and easy to wash up the little bowl that I use it a lot just to save time. HTH

Great question OP, my MIL bought me a thing like this from Lidl as she has one and it's great, but I'd love to know what else to do with it!

wow,i want one of these after reading your reply,my stick blender/chopper has just broke, was going to just replace it but think i'll go for mini chopper now.thanks!:)
  • I use mine on a daily basis, especially for making curry sauces, putting all the onions and spices in the blender and press go!

I get a veg box so I often make Gujerati Cabbage in the mini chopper, I use it to do the cabbage and carrot and the rest is simple.

If you are making a spag bol just stick all your celery, onion and carrot, pepper and mushrooms in the chopper and then shove the results in your saucepan with the mince.

Delias humuus is a great recipe to use it for.

I also make breadcrumbs in it for freezing.

If you want meat chopped up quite small you can also use it for this.

    I LOVE my mini chopper!
