So the norm is for sellers to let complete strangers in their cars to test drive them?

I would thought it would be common practise to simply take the potential buyer out for a spin to show them what the car is like.

The only car I've ever bought without a test drive ran out of MOT twenty years earlier and needed full restoration :rotfl:

I even bought a Golf for £100 with a dog end of MOT and Tax and took it for a quick spin around the block

Yes of course, unless the seller has something to hide.

Obviously the seller will go along with them.

To buy a used car without a test drive would be sheer stupidity.
  • I would never buy a car I could not drive 1st.

How much oil does the car use in how many miles.

Well my car passed its MOT this week with only 2 minors (both nothing to worry about) so I reckon its silly to gamble and try to swap it for something so similar.

If it had had a few problems that needed attention in the short term then I might have been inclined to punt it.
  • Thing is letting people test drive the car you're selling is a bit of a necessary evil - I don't think you'll find many prospective buyers willing to part with large amounts of money for a car without even driving a few feet in it.

Watch any program about buying a car or read any website or magazine on the subject - no one offering advice about buying a car would advise someone to buy a car without test driving it first - in fact they advise taking any car out for at least thirty or forty minutes.

Unfortunately I don't think that many people will want to buy a car without test driving it first - whatever the circumstances with the relevant insurance.
