Income Support/IB

Hi
I was wondering if some of you could clarify my position about potentially moving in with my boyfriend.

I am on Income Support(IB?)/with a disabilty premium being paid. I think I was put on IS because when I first claimed I had not paid enough NI contributions to be put on IB.

I live in a one bed council flat and receive full HB and CT.

I have been diagnosed with BiPolar and am under the CMHT and have a CPN and support from the local doctor.

Would I still be able to claim the above benefits if I moved in with my boyfriend who works full time and receives no benefits.

I have one set of friends that live together, he is epileptic and claims the same as me, she has fibromyalgia and has DLA high rate and IB there claims seem to be treated separatley yet they together as a couple? with full HB and Ctax.

The other friends are married, his wife works p/time 10hrs a week but he is still getting ESA? and she is allowed to work and they do not take any deductions from his couples ESA claim? he mentioned he was claiming a single claim...

I am enquiring abut myself as I want to make sure of my financial position before I make the final decision whether to move in with him or not, as it would mean leaving my network of support mental healthwise and dont want to find myself back to square one after doing so well with there help.

Could someone possibly clarify what my position would be if I did move in with him as regards my IS(IB) claim.

Any comments gratefully appreciated.

    Your IS would cease.
  • Thanks Dookar I thought that might be the case...some deep thought now as to what to do now.

I have a scenario of what if this relationship ever went wrong (Im 100% sure it wont weve been together 3 years but have never had the courage to completely trust another man after my abusive/violent marriage) but boyfriend is moving to a new job with work and its a very long way away and Id like to go with him just having dithering panic attacks over this ,,Im daft I know but this is aside effect of my BiPolar, dithering over decisions.

If I went and it all went wrong would I beable to reclaim as a single person with BiPolar, Ive a fear of being peniless and homeless after what happened with my ex husband it went deep the ending of that relationship and impacts on my day to day living/trust factors with everyone around me.

Im now going to have to think about this very carefully..

Your IB would continue so, were you to become single again, you would have grounds to claim IS.

It is also remembering that you do not have to be living together to be classed as a couple for benefit purposes.
