Well if you don't do too many miles so fuel consumption and maintenance isn't too much of an issue and it doesn't cost you in other ways to fix / keep going it's a bargain and something interesting to have.

Citroen Dyan 6 in our garage gone about around £500 to £1000 in value in the last 10 years. We don't use it though.

Classic cars aren't really a great investment, though they are great hobby (I have an MG Midget myself).
Depends on what you buy and when. Generally speaking most people restore cars for the love of it and never see a return on the many hours they put in.
Compared to new cars they can be fantactic value, benefitting from classic insurance, cheap parts (sometimes) and being exempt from road tax (pre 1972).
Light blue touchpaper and stand well back !

my alpine is the twin of the one in the picture-only difference it has bolt on wires which the previous owner bestow on it--i dragged it out of his garden with no engine but he had kept the tyres pumped up!!-i love tinkering although i am no expert mechanic-it took me 2 years of rolling restoration to bring to about 9 out of 10 on condition-it has a nice warm garage and always does well in the insurance valuation--its not the love of my life but she loves it and my teenage daughter thinks it cool!!!
