Hi,
I have a number of web addresses and one website. All of which is taken care of by 1and1. They have never been any help to me their operators speak with the most amazing fake voices and i can never understand them.
I have very limited knowledge of web etc. Is it easy to transfer to another provider? Would anyone be able to recommend a provider preferably english. From having a quick look round i might be able to get cheaper. I think our business package is about £8 a month.
Thanks,

1and1's business package includes 3 domain names, but if you decide to host them elsewhere you will also still need to pay 1and1 £8/month to keep them.
if you registered the domain on its own, for about £2.50/year you can host it where you like much cheaper. personally i use justhost.com packages for my 1and1 domains where i can host all my websites and email for just £3.99/month.0 -
I have been quite happy with 1&1. Also have a site with Webfusion - who have been a bit of a pain at time, losing webstats etc.
1&1 give you free subdomains, raw log files kept for 8 weeks and have been pretty stable.0 -
The process of transfering domains between registrars varies depening on the the type of domain ie .com / .net /.co.uk as each has a master register company managing the domain. and their processes are slighty different (.co.uk has ips tags, .com /.net need to be unlocked etc)
you need to decide on a new registrar and then look at 1&1s and your new registrars transfer process really.0 -

Small based company in Scotland. Customer service is 100% they'll do all the transferring for you and if they need you to do stuff they'll walk you through it.
You can even go on to their forum and ask as a guest.0 -
Do you have a website already? If it's a business website then I'd start by finding out if it's currently on a linux or windows software, and any carts, or software that is needed to run your set up. Then you can compare various hosts.
Linux hosting tends to be quite cheap, windows a lot more expensive. It's a php website then you'll probably be OK with linux, if it's ASP then you're pretty much stuck with windows.0
