Chester: Hotel near train station

Anyone from/been to Chester?
Am looking to book a mid week break to Chester soon and wonder if anyone can recommend a nice hotel close to train station?
Any other helpful hints about Chester would be great too ......

I travel to Chester by train from time to time and there are quite a few hotels close to the station. However I've never stayed in any so I can't say if they're nice or not. The Best Western Queen Hotel is the closest to the station, it's right in front of you as walk out of the station exit. Off the top of my head there's also the Westminster Hotel, Belgrave Hotel, Eaton Hotel, Stafford Hotel and a new and shiny Premier Inn within a few minutes walk. The Premier Inn is roughly half way between the station and city centre so probably more convenient than the Queen for shopping, sightseeing, pubs, etc.

Basically you want to look for somewhere on City Road which is the road that runs between the station and the city centre.

  • Agree, the Queen hotel is nice, but also have a look in Hoole, just over the bridge from Chester station a nice walk into town there are lots of little hotels and b&bs along the main road. Good Luck

One thing I would say in favour of Chester is that it's a fairly compact city so if you're reasonably healthy you get to and from most places on foot, the main exception being the zoo. The city centre is pedestrianised in places and even where it isn't most people have too much much common sense to drive through it. You still need to watch for buses but it's largely smog free. It's got lots of nice shops, nice pubs and restaurants and I for one would recommend it as a perfect location for a mid-week break. You'd probably get bored if you went for a week but two or three days would be ideal.

  • Thanks everyone for all your help.
I will have a look at the suggested hotels and decide from there.
I am planning for 2 or 3 nights at most, which sounds like it will give us time to see the highlights Chester has to offer.
    Many thanks

I have just booked the Premier Inn at Chester, it says it is 200 yards from the station, £39 per room :)
