I have just had my Natwest debit card (Switch/Maestro) replaced with a Visa debit card. Does anyone know if there is anything I should look out for?

In all seriousness, just treat it like your Switch card.

Better protection against undelivered goods/services in line with credit cards.

I would advise caution about that statement.
Better protection maybe in line with credit cards definitely not.
  • You get VISA Chargeback protection. Other than that, it's mostly the same.

The other thing to be aware of is the payment 'hold'... what I mean is, with my Maestro card, I buy something, pay for it and the payment comes out very quickly.

With my Visa Debit (which is from the same issuer and same account), I buy something, pay for it... and the payment doesn't come out until the following Wednesday (providing it's not already Tuesday when I use it!).

The entire outstanding balance of the Visa Debit is cleared on that day every week and this can be an issue (it never has been for me yet as I'm aware of it) as I can draw something like £3500 a week on the card!

  • Paypal.

There are many threads here about Natwest Visa Debits being used on Paypal and then having a foreign transaction fee applied. Dunno if it's been fixed yet.

I have a Visa debit card issued by HSBC. Pay for something today and payment is often shown on the online banking tomorrow - some shops do appear to hold onto transactions but this may be to do with their own banking practices rather than to do with Visa.
