Work for over 60s

Hello,
I retired last year at 62, sold my house and moved to France.
Unfortunately, because of family problems, I now have to return to the UK.
There is no possibility of selling my house here in the near future, and even if I did, I couldn't afford to buy in England. At least if I can keep this house I will have some security and the possibility of returning to it sometime in the future.
I am going to have to rent in England and will have to find a job to pay the rent.
I'm wondering if anyone knows what the chances are of finding work as an over 60 in the UK at the moment?
Does anyone have any experience of looking for/finding work as an over 60?
I was a Civil Servant before I retired and have no professional qualifications.

Your best bet would probably be to register with an office agency e.g. Adecco.

Can't help with the job hunting, but would say that it's worth contacting housing associations in the area where you want to rent and seeing what they have exclusively for older people. There isn't always as much demand for them as there is for family properties (of course this is no help if the problems bringing you back mean you NEED a family property) so you might get lucky. You'll be able to demonstrate a 'local connection' which also helps.
A friend is renting a wonderful flat in a converted church: most of the flats sold very easily, but a couple within the former church building had 'difficult' windows - starting at floor level and going up in a tall arch, or high up and going right to the ceiling, depending on which floor you're on! As a result, no-one wanted to buy, so they rented them out.Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
B & Q are known for giving 'golden oldies' a chance in the recruitment stakes.
My old man retired from the Civil Service a couple of years back, then was taken straight back on as a contractor 2 days a week on a succession of temporary contracts. Have you tried your old employment arena to see if there are any temporary opportunities.0
