That's down to HO rules. Often my husband has sorted all his mail and is ready to go out and start deliveries by 7.30-8am, but he's not allowed to leave the office until after 9am. He has to find things to do until 9am when he's allowed out. It's madnessHere I go again on my own....0 -
That's down to HO rulesI no longer work in Council Tax Recovery but instead work as a specialist Council Tax paralegal assisting landlords and Council Tax payers with council tax disputes and valuation tribunals. My views are my own reading of the law and you should always check with the local authority in question.0

It's always been job and finish. You get paid until lunchtime-ish (not sure of exact time), so if you rush round fast and get your delivery done in speedy time, you can knock off early.
The bosses don't like that, so are keeping people back in the office on a morning, to stop them finishing their delivery before the official finish time.
Husband is annoyed as they are still getting the same amount of work out of everybody, but are getting everyones backs up by making them sit around until 9am.Here I go again on my own....0 -
Thats pathetic Becles, I always thought that one of the perks of the job was that posties sometimes got to knock off early. I mean lets face it they have to have something to compensate for the crappy hours, the snapping dogs and the great british weather!

What if your wife had handed the stamp to the postman to stick on the letter himself? Surely everyone would have been happy...That's Numberwang!0

You don't think she tried that?
Anyway, she went to the sorting office, and the manager came out with the letter and just handed it to her (why couldn't the postman have done that?) she stuck the stamp on and handed it back but he wouldn't accept it .. she had to walk up to the box in the sorting office (right next to him) and put it in the box herself.
The box was on the wall and was emptied the other side of the counter.
You really couldn't make it up.0 -

Probably, that makes it officially posted.0 -
Hi
If you want to blame anyone for late delivery times, then blame Allan Leighton and his cronies, they are the ones that have brought in the new delivery times, rescheduling walks etc. Now the postie can not go out early and finish early, he has delayed the time they can go out and start delivery, he wants them to do a 8am - 4pm day, with no early finishes. At one time the postie went out early and finished early, but these days are long gone and quite honestly the incentive to rush round has gone, and I don't blame them, also their walks have got bigger and bigger, delivering more mail, most of them doing the job of 2 people,
And I believe the postie was quite correct, once you post that letter into the box, it is no longer yours, it belongs to Royal Mail and as such their responsibility, although saying that I believe he could have stuck the stamp on himself, and I don't know why he didn't, but I suppose he must have had his reasons.
Most posties I find are hard working, decent people, who do a difficult job, in difficult times, ie yobs, dogs, weather etc. and the likes of Allan Leighton, trying to get his pound of flesh, doesn't do any good for the postman and the public, but thats just my opinion.0 -

No need to apologise, not everyone can take other peoples word at face value, but I must admit to wondering what I would gain by posting the story here and leaving out or making up parts of the incident.0
