Gym: notice-of-termination letter

hi everyone
my OH is a David Lloyd member and after some DD problems at the start (surprise surprise!) she decided to pay for her 12 month's membership in one lump sum to avoid further DD problems/hassle.
Anyway, she doesn't want to renew/continue the membership, which expires at the end of April 2010. So she wants to write to tell them this and not have any future complications! (as we know gyms do!).
Does anyone have a template letter they could suggest, that will say everything that needs to be said to make sure it's water-tight and to avoid them trying any of their usual tricks... we're planning to send the letter via Special Delivery AND a hand-delivered copy!
Bearing in mind all the talk of 3 months' notice, thought it would be a good idea to get this done now
Flippin gyms eh!

Yeah bloody gyms...
Help!
I have been a member of a gym for 6 months and my wife was made redundant since, so we could no longer afford to go.
It is a one year deal I signed but should they not take into account a change in circumstance?
During asking/argueing for a "payment/membership holiday" we were banned but they still want the 3 months money whilst I was complaining to head office - Director etc.
Basically they gave me a 3 month amnesty but still want the 3 months money for when I didn't pay but was also barred from going.
What are my rights here, if any?
Can I get out of the contract at all?
I don't actually see what I have to gain by agreeing to be a member for one year. Could I not just pay the difference if it was dearer month to month? How does it all work legally?0 -

How'd u get banned? Just for complaining?0 -
No for being unable to pay.
I asked for a payment/membership holiday. ie give me 3 months amnesty. I asked to hold the membership for a few months and begin it again when the mrs gets a new job. The manager was awkward and the complaints procedure took over 2 months before they agreed a 3 month "holiday" In that time i was barred for on payment but they still want the money even though I wasn't allowed in.0 -

Just say that you have decided not to renew your membership when it is due at the end of April 2010. Short and sweet. You don't need to give a reason.
So long as you give them your name address and membership number so they can identify you.
Special delivery is a little OTT if you want a receipt then recorded is ok"The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves, but wiser people so full of doubts."

thanks for hijacking my thread!
any replies to MY post?:D
ps. thanks Optimist
I think we'll do everything we can to guarantee proof that DL receive the letter (after what happened before when they say they never received our correspondence )... at least with RMSD they HAVE to sign for it!0 -
Tell them that you are sick and can no longer go to a gym for physical reasons, also tell them your moving area soon and that you would like a refund as well as a cancellation of contract, they might ask you to prove this though.Owed out = lots. :cool:0
