M6 toll road

assuming you're heading for M1
you're assuming wrong. Going to Newbury.
I think I will do it just for the fun of it and make the Norton Canes services one of my stops.
For what I will be spending on petrol, £4.70 won't break the bank. I just wondered why all the route planning sites send you that way, are they on commission from the toll collectors;)
After all, I will be on holiday.

There's plenty of conspiracy theories about the M6 Toll and how the Highways Agency seems to be complicit with all their "M6 Toll Clear" signs on the approach. The man without a signature.0 -
I use it on a regular basis but the company pick up the tab, it is rarely busy, the alternative always seems to be clogged up and full of road works when I go that way.0

at the moment there are plenty of road works before you even get to the M6 toll - last night they even closed the M6 completely at J15-14 and forced you onto the A50Don't try to teach a pig to sing - it wastes your time and annoys the pig0

I used to do the M6 Lancs - Newbury route a lot. M6 toll is a pleasant experience usually but not moneysaving on the petrol. Only really timesaving too if there is congestion at the M6/M5 interchange.
Don't get too excited by the idea of the Norton Canes services - nothing special at all! Small, not much choice of food - can't see the attraction myself!0 -

...in which case be careful not to be too exuberant when you get to the bottom of the toll. M42 turns off in left hand lanes, straight on is back onto M6. It's all too easy to tank it along the right lanes and inadvertently head off to Coventry, especially when the M42's queueing (although not as bad now they've relaid out the junction).
Guess you realise that at the north end it's straight on to go onto the toll, left hand lanes/turn off to stay on the old M6?I really must stop loafing and get back to work...0 -
Is using the M6 toll road quicker and easier than not using, it given that I will probably get there in the late afternoon?
Stan
I'd be tempted to delay (or go earlier) my start time so I didn't arrive "late afternoon"!
Between 4:30 & 6:30 the whole area is a mess... M6 from j10 to 8 is usually walking pace, now worse with the roadworks, & the Toll is great 'till it hits the M42 merge then it all goes t!ts up & not worth the £4.70!
Get there around 2 ish or 8 ish & you shouldn't have many probs.Always try to be at least half the person your dog thinks you are!0 -
Lets face it anything that bypasses Birmingham has got to be a good thing, never used toll rd I live in Birmingham and work by the start/end (J9 M42) so see it often.I started with nothing and I am proud to say I still have most of it left.0

I really like it, it's like a private road. Very nice to drive along but it is too expensive to use and while the service station on it is very nice I personally found the Wimpys burger place in it overpriced and a bit !!!!! in the food departmant.Iva started Dec 2018.0
