Just been declined...

in Credit cards
I have just been declined a santander zero card. My current account is with them, although it has only been for the past four months. I have 3000 on a halifax card which the interest free period runs out in 6 months and I have a Virgin card with a limit of 7500 but a balance of 2000, the interest free period has run out on this. Is this usually a difficult card to get as I have never been refused credit?. Yes I owe but my payments are up all up to date and I've never missed any. Should I try for another card or leave it. This is worrying me as we were hoping to buy a property in the next 6 months and now I've got credit declined on my credit file.

What a coincidence, I have just been declined for the same card. I wanted to transfer my MBNA balance of approx £4700 because i am only paying off the interest and want to start clearing my debt as i have twins on the way! I have another CC with Egg with only £700 which is not causing problems. I also pay a mortgage and pay monthly for a car (HP agreement). Current sallary is over £44,000 a yr.
I also went to First Direct (as thats who i bank with) and they refused to offer me the card because i have babies on the way which will affect my situation (even though I pay my own bills and partner pays hers!) They didnt run a Credit check which is why i went to Santander (i have an open current account with A & L but do not use it).
How can i start to clear the CC debt if i cannot get a 0% deal??????0 -
rae25 - this will not show as a decline. Just a search.
Have you checked your credit file lately? Some creditors (MBNA especially) are weary of customers that apply after recently opening another account. Possibly Santander are the same? How many applications for credit have you made in the last six months?
Also some creditors can be weary of too much available credit, so if you have some cards with big limits and low balances or old ones you haven't used in a while this may constitute another risk factor.
How much do you owe in comparison to your annual salary? If this is more than about 1/3 (varies from creditor to creditor, mind) some may be weary of you.Cashback Earned ¦ Nectar Points £68 ¦ Natoinwide Select £62 ¦ Aqua Reward £100 ¦ Amex Platinum £48

As above I would allow 6 months as it gives the lender chance to get to know you0

Bar applying for my new bank account I havent applied for any credit. The trouble is I got all my cards before having my children and since having children I've gone from full time to part time. So my salary has more than halved.0

No way to transfer the balance of the Virgin card to the Halifax card then close the Virgin card?
You mention later that your salary is roughly half what it was, so in theory your available credit could be reduced by half too.
If you're not able to clear it on your own, may be an idea for your partner (you say we were hoping to buy a property) to transfer the 2k Virgin balance to a card in their name instead to let you close the Virgin one and apply for a card in your own name in a few months time to move the balance back again?"A child of five could understand this. I can't advise you on your original question but I can advise on your situation
I see you have twins on the way.:D:D
My twins are almost 3
It is hell, you will crave sleep the way a junkie craves heroin
Get all the help you can muster
Start cooking NOW - get stews, pasta dishes and rice in the freezer because you will not have then energy to cook
Grab sleep when you can
Start weaning asap - once they are on solids thay will/may sleep for more than 4 hours at a time
Grab sleep when you can
join freecycle and start grabbing clothes now
Resign yourself to paying £70 for a shopping trip just to buy shoes
Grab sleep when you can
From experience, when one twin sleeps, the other is awake.
You will have one twin sleeping and the other will drop off - AAhh you will think a few minutes peace
Then you look over at the previously sleeping twin and it is grinning at you having just woken up and wanting to play
I am told it gets better once they start school
11 months to go
Having said that, twins are the bestest experience ever, they are amazing, stick wth it, they're great fun:T:T:T

I've just checked my credit report which is still good but it has a joint loan down in my name only and down twice no wonder im getting refused credit. Who do I complain to first?0

The loan provider and the credit reference agencies (they call it a Notice of Dispute).
Also, with your level of debt and a part time income you will find it hard to be approved for further credit no matter how good your payment history is, without a reduction in debt or increase in income...
...Of course getting the loan mess resolved will half the amount you allegedly owe on it!!Cashback Earned ¦ Nectar Points £68 ¦ Natoinwide Select £62 ¦ Aqua Reward £100 ¦ Amex Platinum £48
