What I am looking for is another winter vegetable to either stay in the ground like parsnips or store like potatoes. Maybe your radish, Midnight.
Unfortunately not the right land for swedes or turnips. Agree about the hardiness of the spinach beet.

Never had a problem with the quality of anything I've grown from Lidl seeds myself, they have all been excellent.

However quantity is an issue IMO. You often don't get many seeds in the packet, which is fine if it is something you just want to try but for a regular/larger crop, a dearer brand may well be worthwile as you get a far more viable amount of seed.

For me quantity is also an issue but as a single person, the relatvely low amount allow me to grow a larger range, albeit smaller quantites of each. If you want maincrop and or are growing for a large family someone like Franchi cost a lot more but offers huge quantities so would be more cost effective.
If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing

Used them on my allotment as a windbreak, but that was when I was much younger. Now, unfortunately, they seem to cause breaking wind!:rotfl:

    sorry Red Cat

    just saw your Q
    my seeds were from Lidl
there isnt one near me so i had never been
when they said they were 29p i was a bit sceptical
but they grew beautiful radish, and i would buy again

    Thanks Midnightraven,

I am not a radish fan, but I think I will take a punt on some of their seeds, such as spring onions and spinach.

I only go there about once a month, so hopefully I will time my trip to Lidl to coincide when they have just got some seed in. Last year, I mistimed it and all the good ones had gone.
Hoping this year is better than the last. :)

I just went to the Lidl website and for my local Lidl, they will have seeds in this Thursday, including a premium range.

  • last year I grew little gem using Lidl seeds - loads in a packet (lettuce seed is always cheap) and lovely lettuce. I also grew their pumpkins ('big tom' I think) - only about 6 or 8 to a pack, but produced some whoppers for halloween! I also grew their Charantais melon in the greenhouse, and only got a few melons, but they were delicious - will grow again this year, but plant into the greenhouse soil rather than containers (they need a lot of space though, so not ideal if you only have a small garden grenhouse) - also grew some courgettes from there - cant remember what variety but they were fine!
  • i grew outdoor cucumbers from there last year-smallish ones (??cornichons)-they were fantastic-had more than we knew what to do with!!!
Of all the things I've lost, I miss my mind the most..... ;)
