I'm 19, and I'm looking to get a credit card. I have lived with my parents all of my life, and I have 2 mobile phone contracts, and 2 catalogues. There are a few missed payments on them.
I am not on the electoral roll.
Can anyone advise me of a credit card that will accept me?
I have tried the Capital One Classic credit card, but it says no!

I have tried the Capital One Classic credit card, but it says no!I'm wanting to move banks as I REALLY don't like RBS.
I've been trying to get a bank account with another provider but they all seem to be rejecting me, does anyone have any ideas why?
Each application whether for a credit card or current account causes a search on your credit report. Multiple searches in a short space of time, together with not being on the electoral register and having missed payment all reduce your credit score. In the next few months, my partner and I are going to be saving £4000 (this is a definete, as we are moving on April 25th!)
I am considering putting it into a credit union, not for the interest rate - but because I heard of the loan criteria.
Am I correct in the thinking that whatever you have in your credit union, you can borrow double it?
Don't you need to be on the electoral register to be able to borrow so much from a credit union?"A child of five could understand this. Fetch me a child of five." - Groucho Marx0 -
If you have a checking or savings account, you can try applying for a credit card at your bank. Talk to a bank representative about opening up your first credit card. Having an existing relationship will improve your chances at getting a credit card application approved.I'm 19, and I'm looking to get a credit card. You might also want to try department store or gas company credit card. But these cards usually offer high interest rates.Mr. Mulla0 -
Technically it is a legal requirement to notify your local authority of your whereabouts i.e. electoral role. Not registering on purpose is an offence. A&L told me this before they were taken over by santander (it was an underwriter who told me this).
Hence credit card providers are weary of anyone who isn't registered.Cashback Earned ¦ Nectar Points £68 ¦ Natoinwide Select £62 ¦ Aqua Reward £100 ¦ Amex Platinum £48

Simply without being registered you will struggle, are you sure that you can't register, as the main issue to this would normally only be if you are a non British/Commonwealth/EU Citizen0
