Saab - worth buying from a dealership (or anywhere else for that matter)

Is it a good idea to buy a Saab right now? Am I right in saying that they may be going under or taken over??

If so, could you get a good deal from their forecourt, or is this deemed too risky to do with Saab in trouble at the moment and could this have an effect on future sales of Saab cars (prices crashing, and no-one wanting to touch them in the future)??

Welcoming comments from petrol-heads out there..

Last I read, they were still looking for a buyer...various potential deals had fallen through.

Personally, I would steer clear for the time being. MG went through something similar about 5-6 years ago. The values of their cars plummeted - I was lucky enough to trade mine in a while before they went under.

I'm sure you wouldn't have a problem with parts/servicing etc, but I am a cautious person so that's just my opinion.

Production of the 9-3/9-5 has been sold to Beijing Automotive (BAIC). The Saab name is still under negotiation. Whether BAIC will sell the cars in Europe is unknown even under one of their brand names. Look at the debacle with MG and how badly it has struggled to reinvent itself in the UK.

Looks like BAIC have bought the intellectual writes + tooling for the old 9-3 and 9-5 models .... i.e the old stuff, and that the new stuff is still up for grabs.
  • I had a Saab, had a 9-5 ARC 2.0 auto 02 plate. I loved it, paid £4000 for it 2 years ago, was only the 2nd owner. I only got rid of it because i could, half way through my credit agreement and could have a newer car for the same price i was paying on the Saab,so it went back to the finance company.

It was a great car, loved everything about it. For that reason i wouldn't hestiate having another one, but obviously don't know what the future holds for them, like others have mentioned MG, i would hate that to happen to Saab as its a damn good name and they bring out very very very good cars, so would be a shame if it all went peared shaped completely.
