laptop repair- rights?

I was wondering if anyone can give me some advice. Took a laptop (which is under it's extended warranty) into Comet for repair on the 22nd December but still do not have it back. They have told me a date for collection several times now and then rung to tell me it won't be repaired for then. They have now told me it will be repaired for the 29th January (but I'm not holding my breath).
Do I have any rights as a consumer?
My friend mentioned that she thought if they had your laptop for more than 28days then you were entitled to a new one but I cant seem to find anything to confirm this? Does anyone know if this is the case?
