PeachPickle wrote:Totally agree with that. I'm not veggie anymore, but those sausage rolls are amazing. But not as good as the deep country pie, if they still do that. My god that's a gorgeous pie. And I don't like pie much! They're in the freezer section
I just remembered those and was coming to post about them . My god, they are scrumptious. OS as I am, theres no way I could make a pie like those they are fantastic. Linda M, deep country pies they are called, 4 for about 1.80. Very highly recommended :beer: Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast :beer:0 -

Haven't bought quorn for ages since I found out that the protein comes from two different sources, mushrooms (which was what I thought it was made from) and battery chicken eggs (which I didn't know). That was enough to put off my then veggie daughter. Not sure where the egg protein comes from now as I think that they may have changed it, but check the packet. I am now vegan so no Quorn for me at all. Some of my fave convenience foods are Sos mix which I can add things to, to make sausages and sausage rolls, and a tin of chickpeas which can be turned into sooo many different things. But I agree that Couldron foods can usually be relied upon.True wealth lies in contentment - not cash. Dollydaydream 20060

Some of these processed vegetarian foods are actually worse for you than their meat counterparts.
Fair enough as an occasional treat, but, for example, Linda Mac's sausages and sausage rolls have hydrogenated oils in them - far worse for you than animal fat, as they clog the arteries easily - (simply put, the hyrogenation that makes the fats solid means the oils is sticky)
Sosmix also has hydrogenated oils, as well as GM soya.
Use these products, sure, but not as an every day thing - would be my advice.0 -
Wow I didn't know that Sosmix had GM soya in it. It is getting so hard. I have a dilemma where I get my soya from. If I buy organic, then I have to equate that with the fact that organic soya and palm oil production are responsible for the greatest reduction in the rain forest - not what I want ecologically! Or if I don't buy organic then it may be GM which I also oppose environmentally. Does anyone know of organic soya that I can buy that definately does not come from the rain forest?True wealth lies in contentment - not cash. Dollydaydream 20060

ime, the quorn 'ham' is horrible, I couldn't even taste it because the smell was so bad.I do like Quorn's chicken style pieces in wraps with salad, though.A great alternative to chicken.I also put them in a chicken curry for my dd and she ate them all up, despite being a typiclly suspicious of anything new 7y.o.;)Member of the first Mortgage Free in 3 challenge, no.19

not anymore in the sausage rollsand hopefully not in the sausages soon:
"At Linda McCartney it is our aim not to use ingredients containing trans fatty acid (TFA) in our products.
Over the last 24 months we have carried our extensive development work to eliminate the use of hydrogenated vegetable oil without compromising the great taste that Linda McCartney consumers expect. This has been successfully completed for products including Linda McCartney Deep Country Pies, Linda McCartney Country Slices, Linda McCartney Cocktail Sausage Rolls and Linda McCartney Sausage Rolls.
We are continuing to take steps with the aim of eliminating hydrogenated fat from a couple of remaining recipes where taste and technical challenges need to be overcome. Hence our chefs are working very hard to replace the hydrogenated fat in Linda McCartney sausages with out compromising on the taste and texture of the product and we hope to make the change to non hydrogenated fat in the near future ."0 -

That was a few years ago when it was discovered they had trace amounts.
However, now....
"Direct Foods Sosmix. Complete textured soya protein sosage mix. Contains no meat or animal fat. Made from non GM soya beans."
With regards your GM info and Linda McCartney info, ur obviously getting it from old sources and it could compromise what people who read it on here go on to eat!!!
As an extra note, however, the higher up the list of ingredients hydrogenated oils appears, the more trans fats the product will contain. If you check out the ingredients of Sosmix it's quite high up on the list so even I wouldn't recommend it even if it tastes nice...0 -
p.s. to the op, the new Quorn Lemon and Pepper Bites are yummy and low fat! If u can find the Quorn Satay Sticks too.... mmmmmmmmm0
