you then have weak plants
last year i made the mistake of doing this, with EVERYTHING, for my 1st crop
when it came time, WEEKS later to plant my 2nd crop i found they both grew at roughly the same rate but the 2nd crop were much stronger plants
when would you advise to plant? x2010 is my DO IT year! grow own bits, savvy shopping, organised!!Get a hobby!!! be fit!! be happy!!

well, last year i grew indoors, end of january into the first 2 weeks in feb(my 1sy crop was 350 paper pots)
then i planted straight into the ground at end of March
both crops were the same size after a few weeks but the 2nd one was stronger
its not when, its about temp, too warm they will become leggy plants if grown too quickly at this stage, i was so keen to get started, but it really was a big mistake0 -

I sow sweet basil from January to September in pots for the windowsill, and have had a year long supply. Although this reduces over the winter months - you can also nip young leaves off, when the plants are plentiful in the summer, and freeze them whole in a small tub.
I don't bother with basil outdoors, as it attracts too many bugs.0 -
Grow mint in a pot (if you want it) otherwise it'll take over the garden! Parsley also easy to grow.0

Most herbs are essential hot weather plants liking lots of sunshine and during British winters they often don't thrive on window sills because of the low light level. You're probably doing nothing wrong to your coriander. It just doesn't like British winters.0

Thanks Primrose. I will wait til its a bit warmer, maybe March or so. You know what it's like, it's hard to wait to grow stuff!!!!
Do you think my mint that has been in a pot in the garden, and looks dead, may revive? Apparently it can take over a garden, which makes me think it may just be pretending to be dead.Father Ted: Now concentrate this time, Dougal. These
(he points to some plastic cows on the table) are very small; those (pointing at some cows out of the window) are far away...

My mint in a pot looks dead, but if you look closely there should be new leaves sprouting through, at ground level, not on the old stems.
It takes a special talent to kill mint.0 -

What you can also do is plant mint in a large pot and then place that into the ground, with just the rim of the pot showing.0 -

My pot of mint (from seed) has been neglected in a very wet place... basically it's been sitting in a sodden pot on the patio for at least 6 months.
It's thriving! :j Doesn't even seem to have died off in the cold. When the weather's a bit better I'm going to put it in a big pot so it can really go berserk
My TV is broken!
